ROYAL COPENHAGEN
This is perfect example of the artistry of Flora Danica porcelain, perhaps the world's most desirable and costly tableware. The interior of the bowl displays a brilliant, hand painted orchid, and the underside is inscribed "Orchis sambucina L.f. incarnata".
Flora Danica was originally created in the 18th century as a gift from the King of Denmark to the Empress of Russia. It is still only made at the Royal Copenhagen Porcelain Manufactory in Copenhagen, Denmark. Every piece is made by hand and each is painted by the hand of a single artist, following the original botanical prints created in the 1700's. Production is extremely limited, and collectors may wait years for a particular piece to become available.
This piece, a large pierced oval fruit basket, bears the date code for 1975-79. Dimensions are approximately 10 inches long from handle to handle, and the oval basket measures 9 ¼ x 7 3/8 x 3 1/8 inches high. It is unused and has only been displayed, behind glass, in a smoke-free home. No faults and exactly as it came from Royal Copenhagen. We are the original owner of this beautiful piece which we purchased new, many years ago, directly from Royal Copenhagen in Copenhagen, Denmark.
